Sindhi Journalist AD Shar Brutally Murdered in Thari Mirwah

Khairpur – In a chilling reminder of the growing dangers faced by journalists in Sindh, senior Sindhi journalist AD Shar, also known as Allah Dino Shar, was brutally murdered by unidentified assailants in Thari Mirwah, district Khairpur. His body was discovered dumped on the Handiyari Link Road, sending shockwaves through the journalistic community.

According to initial reports, local residents spotted the lifeless body and alerted the police, who then shifted it to Thari Mirwah Hospital for medical examination.

The Station House Officer (SHO) of Thari Mirwah Police Station confirmed that AD Shar had been attacked with a sharp-edged weapon. “There are clear marks of brutal violence on his face, believed to be caused by axe blows,” the SHO said. A post-mortem is currently underway, and further details will be revealed after the autopsy report is released.

This tragic incident follows a disturbing pattern of violence against journalists in the region. Just last year, in May 2024, another Sindhi journalist, Nasrullah Gadani, was also murdered in similar circumstances. The repeated killings have raised serious questions about the safety of media professionals and the declining state of press freedom in Sindh.

In response to the murder, the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has announced three days of mourning nationwide. Senior journalist and union leader Naveed Khuhro strongly condemned the killing, calling it an attack on free speech and democracy. “We demand that the killers of AD Shar be identified and punished without delay. The government must act now to protect journalists,” he stated.

As the investigation continues, colleagues, friends, and supporters of AD Shar remember him as a brave voice for the people—now silenced too soon. His murder is not just a personal tragedy but a grim symbol of the risks faced by those who dare to speak truth to power.
