Sialkot, a city in Pakistan’s Punjab province, has long been recognized as a global hub for football manufacturing. Producing over 70% of the world’s footballs, Sialkot’s industry has supplied major international tournaments, including the FIFA World Cups.
The city’s football manufacturing legacy dates back to the late 19th century. Today, Sialkot is home to more than 1,000 football factories, employing nearly 60,000 workers. These factories produce between 40 to 60 million footballs annually, catering to global brands such as Nike, Adidas, and Puma.
In recent years, Sialkot has embraced sustainable practices to enhance its manufacturing processes. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has collaborated with the Punjab government to upgrade the city’s infrastructure, focusing on reliable water supply, improved sewerage and sanitation systems, and effective waste management. These initiatives aim to boost Sialkot’s competitiveness, create jobs, and improve the quality of life for its residents.
The city’s commitment to quality and innovation has solidified its position as the world’s football manufacturing capital. As global demand for high-quality footballs continues to rise, Sialkot remains at the forefront, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques to meet international standards.
